Autism North
East (ANE) is the only regional user-led autism organisation in the North East
of England, an organisation for autistic people run entirely by autistic people
ANE campaigns throughout the North East and elsewhere to advance the interests
of autistic people and those people with “related conditions”
ANE offers information, support and informal advice to those with a neurological difference.
ANE can assist and support people towards a diagnosis
ANE aims to:
· Promote the civil and human rights of autistic people
· Raise awareness of autism
· Work to improve services, facilities and conditions for autistic people
· Encourage the involvement and engagement of autistic people in the commissioning, design, delivery and evaluation of statutory sector services used by autistic people
· Campaign for the enforcement of the legislation and guidance which guarantees us involvement and engagement
· Develop mechanisms, structures, procedures and processes by which statutory agencies may involve and engage with autistic people
· Establish and support local and sub-regional user-led organisations with aims similar to Autism North East
Autism North East works to promote:
· The involvement of autistic people in statutory sector strategic planning at all levels and in all areas
· Positive autistic identities and to oppose negative stereotypes
· The social model of disability
· The recognition that there is a “hierarchy of disabilities” and to work to abolish such inequity
· Social inclusion and independent living
· The concept of “neurodiversity”
Those wishing to join
Autism North East or to attend meetings do not need a formal diagnosis.
However, Autism North East can attempt to assist and support people who are
seeking a diagnosis
